Add Opens in Goldie's Panel
Owner rulings 2026-10-09 — Add and Replace file proposals that wait for the card's tick. Add Document (and every Add) no longer opens a modal. It takes over Goldie's right-hand panel for a moment, as the ⓘ About view does: a search with the All + filter control, results beneath with ticks, Cancel and Add at the foot, and Back to Goldie returning to the conversation where it was. A ticked document previews on the page as a pending card. Replaces the Add modal and its preview half; the search's scope and filter follow library-use-in.
In plain terms: adding a precedent no longer covers the matter file with a dialog. The side panel turns into the search for a moment, so you can see what the matter already holds while you choose, then it turns back into the conversation.
Decision
Owner ruling, 2026-10-09.
-
Add takes over the panel. Pressing Add Document (or any Add) swaps Goldie's conversation for the Add view in the same right-hand panel, as the ⓘ About view already swaps it. The panel's header stays.
-
The Add view, top to bottom: ← Back to Goldie; the search box with the lists' All + filter control beside it (scope and filter as
/docs/decisions/library-use-inrule 5); the results with a tick each, blanks included; Cancel and Add at the foot. -
Preview on the page. A ticked document shows where it would land as a pending card, not in a preview pane. Unticking removes it; Cancel removes them all.
-
Leaving. Add, Cancel or Back to Goldie returns to the conversation at the place it was left; the composer's draft is kept.
-
The modal (
InsertPickerinLibraryDialog) and its dark preview half go once the panel view lands. -
Add and Replace are proposals (owner, 2026-10-09, option B). Pressing Add files the ticked items as a proposal that lands on the canvas as pending cards, waiting for each card's tick, as Goldie's proposals do. With a card selected, the view also offers Replace for one result: it files a proposal shown as a redline in place, the old card struck and the new one added. Accepting it puts the new one in and deletes the old (Put back still restores it); rejecting leaves the old one untouched. Answers in fields of the same name carry across; any that cannot are named on the card.
-
Settled 2026-10-14 (owner):
- The Project screen files proposals too: Add waits for each card's tick there as on a Document.
- A ticked blank goes straight in; it has nothing to review.
- Replace carries field answers across by name ignoring case and spacing; any that still do not match are named on the card.
- Library pages get the same right-hand panel, so Add opens there too; no modal survives.
-
Replace safeguards (owner, 2026-10-14), one shared rule on every screen:
- Before filing, the Add view names any filled-in answers that will not carry across ("2 answers won't carry across: Seller, Settlement date").
- When any filled-in answer would be dropped, Replace asks once to confirm; when everything carries, no extra step.
- Replace is not offered on finished work. Settled 2026-10-15: the app
has no finished Document (saving freezes an edition and reopens a
working draft; publishing files a copy; there is no sent-for-signature
state), so this means a card shown at an earlier saved edition. The
working draft always allows Replace. One shared rule
(
replacingCard, pastEdition); a Project list never shows an earlier edition, so it is unaffected.

- Search as a Goldie turn in the conversation (closest to
/docs/decisions/library-search-is-conversational): every Add would leave a turn in the history. Asking Goldie to find something stays possible; the Add button opens the panel view. - Keep the modal: it hides the matter while choosing, and its preview half duplicates what a pending card on the page shows.
Consequences
- The panel is about half the modal's width: titles truncate sooner and the filter must fit beside a narrower search box.
- The 2026-09-12 ruling that library search is "never a modal" is met again.
/docs/decisions/library-use-inrule 5 (one search, All + filter) still governs what the search finds; only where it is drawn changes.
Current versus Target
| Current (2026-10-09) | Target | |

| Preview | The modal's left half | A pending card on the page |
The About Face Writes Identity and Guide
On every card the About face a person edits writes the handle, the name and the guide. A block's material — its clause text, its questions, its numbering, its conditions — is edited where it already is, and stays read-only on that face for people. Goldie keeps her own door to numbering and conditions.
Block Edits Run Inside One Envelope
Why the seven block-editing mutations share a single bracketing seam that owns load, guard and stamp, and why the after-resolution rule is extracted as a pure function
