The Side-Panel Goldie Is Maker Only

Owner ruling 2026-09-15 — the interview lives in the side panel and the side panel is drawn only for a Maker; in Builder mode Goldie is the in-folio agent on the card, proposing edits to that folio and its children and proposing new folios below.

Superseded — 2026-09-28

Overruled by Builder Goldie Lives in the Side Panel: the Builder now talks to Goldie in the same side panel, about the selected item, and the per-card trigger is gone. The record below is history.

Decision

Owner ruling, 2026-09-15, settling decision-14 (raised 2026-09-11 while landing Maker Fills, Builder Builds):

  1. The side panel is Maker only. The interview — the collection script that walks the form, asks each question and records the answer — is a Maker-mode activity, and the side-panel Goldie that runs it is drawn only for a Maker.
  2. Builder mode has no side-panel Goldie. In Builder mode Goldie is the in-folio agent anchored to the card in front of the Builder. Her scope is the ruling in GB-145: she proposes edits to the current folio and its children, and proposes new folios (content blocks, data blocks, modules) below. Every change is a proposal a Builder accepts or rejects; nothing moves until acceptance.
  3. A Builder who wants to walk the form previews as Maker. There is no second surface for rehearsal.

In plain terms: the client fills in the form by talking to Goldie in the side panel. The lawyer drafting the precedent talks to Goldie on the clause itself, and every suggestion she makes goes up as a memo for the lawyer to sign.

Alternatives refused

  • A Builder side panel that runs the interview. This is the inversion GB-93 records from 2026-08-18: a Builder answers nothing, so serving them the collection script forced structural work through an escape hatch.
  • A Builder side panel for free document-wide conversation. The document card's own Goldie already opens that conversation, anchored where the work is; a second door adds cost and a second posture for the same job.

Consequences

  • Stage E (GB-248) wires Goldie in the Builder role inside each folio first. The side-panel interview returns later as its own Maker-mode work on the unified tables; it is not part of the Builder wiring.
  • GB-93 is re-scoped against Stage E with this ruling: Builder-role sessions never receive the interview script, so no escape hatch is needed.
  • The Inspector's shell hides its agent content for a Builder. The container screens' sidebar (Container Screens Share One Anatomy) keeps its truthful empty state until the Maker panel is rebuilt.
  • The next ruling the wiring waits on is decision-17: one agent with a scope parameter, or per-folio Goldies with authority rules.

Current versus Target

  • Current. No agent runtime exists after GB-152 Stage B; the only agent in convex/ is the dev-only stub. Every card carries a Builder-only Goldie trigger, and the side panel on Document, Project and Workspace screens shows an unconnected empty state.
  • Target. The in-folio Builder Goldie files proposals against Folios (Stage E); the side panel renders only for a Maker session and carries the rebuilt interview.
